Friday Night Fights, Round 8 (02/26/2010)

We'll be running our seventh Friday Night Fights on February 26th from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM at Galaxy LAN Center. There will be up four TV / console stations available for play.  All expenses will be covered, but I do ask if you attend regularly that you consider supporting it by throwing in a $5 donation to cover some expense.

Bring your own controllers, games, systems, save files, or other gear if you want to play or play on something other than default systems, controllers, or the games listed below.

The following are available (and might be playable based on demand):

  • Street Fighter IV (X-Box 360, PS3)
  • Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (Wii)
  • BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (X-Box 360, PS3)
  • Soul Calibur IV (X-Box 360, PS3)
  • Virtua Fighter 5 (X-Box 360, PS3)
  • Tekken 6 (PS3)
  • Capcom vs. SNK 2 (X-Box, PS2)
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (X-Box 360, PS2)
  • Arcana Heart (PS2)
  • Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (PS2)
  • Guilty Gear X2 Reload (X-Box)

  • Power Stone 2 (Dreamcast)
  • Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix (X-Box 360, PS3)
  • Garou: Mark of the Wolves (X-Box 360)
  • King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match (X-Box 360)

The plan is to run round-robin ranbats for the Street Fighter (HD Remix, III: Third Strike, IV), BlazBlue, and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (if there is interest).  Other games may be included if sign-ups are solid.

We've had kind of a diminishing returns on players recently, so hopefully we'll see a boost up this month.  If not, I might need to start considering a different avenue for running the event.  Last time, I only needed two consoles and that's something I could easily run at home.

Hope to see you there!

Friday Night Fights, Round 7 Summary

Kind of a slow fight night with just 10 people showing up due to weather concerns and other commitments.  Is the idea just running out of steam, or was it just a bad night for a fight night?  Should I be doing things on a different day?  Let me know what the fight nights are missing or need to do to keep on rolling.

We rented two stations, played some Street Fighter IV, BlazBlue, Samurai Showdown, and Virtua Fighter 5.  It was still a good outing, but would've been nice to have a few more people around.

Thanks to everyone who came out, and thanks to Bandith for donating some cash for the event.  I appreciate it!

If you have any feedback, suggestions, or ideas on how to run these in the future - let me know.  I can't change much unless I know what you guys like or dislike.

Friday Night Fights Still On!

Because I've gotten a few questions about it, we're still going to be running Friday Night Fights despite the weather.  Obviously, use your own discretion when traveling tonight, especially if you're coming in from out of town.

Otherwise, I'll see you there!

Early Idea for SmashKart 2010

Alright, so we're looking at running another tournament event, this time focusing on the Wii hardware.  If you hadn't guessed by the title, we're looking at running a Smash Bros. Brawl and Mariokart Wii tournament, split into 4 events (2 events per game).

For Smash Bros. Brawl, it would be 1v1 All is Brawl Rules (Restricted Levels, All Characters, No Items) and 4-Player Free-for-All (All Levels, All Characters, All Items, No Smash Ball for obvious reasons).

For Mariokart Wii, it would be 2 4-Player Free-for-All Races (All Courses, All Characters, Default Bikes and Karts only) but the events would be seperated based on items (one event will be All Items Open, the other would be Basic Items Only, such as Banana Peels and Green Shells).

We're looking at a late February to early March time frame and for as little cost as possible.  I'd like to know if there is any interest whatsoever in doing this, so drop us a line either here or on facebook and let us know.
